Karen wrote down a note on a napkin in the ICU for this blog which was then read to me over the phone by her husband. Being a RN (Registered Nurse), Karen gave an update that is somewhat technical in nature. I will be explaining it the best I can in parenthesis.
Here's her note (in the quotation marks):
"A chest tube was removed at 10 AM today (the chest tube keeps the lungs expanded). They started a Pick Line 11AM (this is a type of IV line). At 1PM I was moved to a chair, and they removed the central line (an IV feed that was going into her neck) and removed the IV from my right arm. My lungs are congested and it is very difficult to breathe deeply and cough without a lot of pain. The epidural has to come out tonight or tomorrow. I am still getting morphine."
We're encouraged that Karen's probably moving out of ICU later today. She is not really up to friends or visitors tonight. We're told by the hospital staff that the 2nd day post-op is typically a hard day. Hopefully we'll see things start to improve on the 3rd and 4th days. Thank you again for all your prayers.

Karen, This is Naomi Williamson from Colorado again. We are praying constantly for you. I've called 3 church prayers trees and several friends. So Evan's goal is going to be exceeded. I'm glad to hear of your progress. God Bless You. Love Naomi
Karen,
I have been praying almost continuously for you, my dear friend. I would love to be there to encourage you but please know that you are never far away from my thoughts.
Thanks for the details on the napkin. I was wondering what was really happening. The blog has been really helpful with that. Please know that you are loved by many.
I imagine spiritual warfare going on in your body. God's spirit that lives in your "good cells" will fight off the "bad cells" of Satan. I am praying that God will be the victor in this life. As we know He is the ultimate victor in the life to come.
We are with you and your family in this for the long haul.
Love, Elaine
Dear Hauber Family,
I am so glad to hear Mrs. Hauber is doing well. And I am also glad Evan's goal was reached. As soon as I read what he wished for I instantly hoped for the smae results. God is SO good in meeting our littlest needs.
I am still praying, still reading the blog, and hopeing with all my heart that Mrs. Hauber comes out soon.
I really enjoy knowing you all and your friendship with me.
Thanks.
In Him,
Aaron Contino
Karen,
I just heard the news and Jay and I and the kids will be praying for you and your family. You have always been a living testimony to me, Karen, of how God adopts us into His family.
Be strong, girl! We know we have a God greater than this disease.
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
What a testimony for the children to see how God brings his family together to pray. We may all be sitting at our computers, but we are all together in Him!
Blessings to you.

"Your righteousness reaches to the skies, O God, you who have done great things. Who, God, is like you? THough you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again;from the depths of the earth, you will bring me up. You will increase my honor and comfort me once again". -Psalm 71:19-21
AMEN!!
Karen, I am so glad you are extubated and going to a regular floor. The girls and I have been praying for you and strength for your family. I chuckled when I read the note you wrote. Once a nurse, always a nurse.
